But when the pitch brief for Venmo came across my desk and the first rule was “Don’t use Venmo like a verb!” when that’s how everyone uses it, well…

Sadly, this campaign never largely made it into the world. The launch was scheduled right as the Harvey Weinstein news broke. I’m sure you can imagine why we thought pressing pause on suggestive headlines about paying someone back–winky and harmless as they may be–was the right call.

Venmo Card | Now Everyone Takes Venmo

Ever wished a bar took Venmo? Or a vending machine? Or Target? Of course you did. We all did!

In fact, so many people complained about not being able to use Venmo more places that Venmo threw up their arms and said, “Fine! Here’s a way for you to use Venmo everywhere!” And then we made a “Thank you for this great idea!” video for every single person who complained. Which is literally every possible first name in existence.

(tl;dr Venmo debuted its debit card and asked us to make ads for it.)
